Repair and convert corrupt Offline folder files (OST) to Personal folder files (PST)

Both OST and PST are Outlook Data Files. The first one stands for Offline Storage Table while the other one stands for Personal Storage Table. Also known as Offline folder files (OST) and Personal folder files (PST), both file formats are used to store mailbox data of Microsoft Outlook. However, they share completely different functionalities.

OST files allow you to send/receive emails and other information during offline mode. You can still work with MS Outlook if it’s not connected to the Exchange Server or there is no internet connectivity. OST files get synchronized with the Exchange Server to complete every action you performed during offline mode. OST files basically store an exact copy of Outlook mailbox on Exchange Server.

On the other hand, PST files store entire Outlook mailbox data on your system’s hard disk. PST files are basically used as backup files for Outlook. During data corruption or loss, you can use PST files to restore the mailbox data of MS Outlook.

OST Corruption

Corruption prone nature of OST files is widely known. There are multiple factors that can lead to OST file corruption such as Exchange Server failure, hard disk failures, abrupt Outlook termination, synchronization issue between MS Outlook and Exchange Server, bad internet connectivity, virus attacks, sudden power failure or system shutdown etc. Corrupt OST file prevents you from accessing Outlook emails and other mailbox items. To restore Outlook communication, you need to repair corrupt OST files immediately.

How to fix OST corruption?

Corrupt OST files cannot be accessed. To make them accessible and to restore Outlook communication, you need to convert corrupt OST files to Outlook accessible PST format. The problems might get resolved after performing the above mentioned steps. But, if it doesn’t, try using Inbox Repair Tool (Scanost.exe). It’s a free tool provided by Microsoft.
